Seaman faces charges of indiscriminate firing

THE Iloilo City Police Office has charged a seaman recently with illegal discharge of firearms and alarm and scandal for reportedly firing indiscriminately his firearm shortly after the New Year.
City police chief Marietto Valerio identified the seaman as Ramon Espia, a resident of Dolmax, Subdivision, Barangay Camalig, Jaro district, in violation of a total gun ban and existing law against indiscriminate firing especially during the Christmas season.

Police said Espia admitted firing his gun to check its condition but refused to yield to the invitation of the policemen for questioning.
On the other hand, Police Senior Stephen Somosot is designated as the new officer-in-charge of Iloilo City Police Station 3 after Senior Inspector Joseph Auje Almaquer was relieved from his post virtue of the doctrine of command responsibility, as a result of Espia's case.
It was reported that, when Espia refused the invitation of the three policemen for questioning, the three returned to the police station without him.
The three Jaro station policemen were Police Officer 3 Rico Alolor, duty investigator, and police officers 1 Valiant Chua and Eliseo Benliro. They were promptly reassigned to Victorias City, Negros Occidental for their inaction.
