Iloilo ready to accept foreign visitors
Wednesday, January 18, 2012
THE city and province of Iloilo are ready to accommodate visitors from other countries, said City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.
The city is currently celebrating the 44th Dinagyang Festival this week, with about more than one million spectators and participants.
Mabilog said local tourism officials -- composed of city tourism officer Benito Jimena, Iloilo provincial tourism officer Bombette Marin and Department of Tourism regional director Helen Catalbas -- are in Manila to see officials of airlines and ask the inclusion of the Iloilo airport in the travel routes of tourists, especially from South Korea and China.
He said the direct airplane flight from Asian countries would benefit not only the city but also the municipalities of Iloilo.
Mabilog was in South Korea two months ago and met with officials of Incheon City to discuss the possibility of direct flights from South Korea to the Iloilo airport in Cabatuan, Iloilo.
The local tourism contingent currently in Metro Manila is expected to press the direct flight mission assisted by the Department of Tourism and the Department of Transportation and Communications.
