THE donor of the 10 electronic jeepneys donated to the Iloilo City Government last year wanted the vehicles back, saying they do not serve their intended purpose.

Businessman Rommel Ynion, the donor of the vehicles, wrote Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog expressing his desire to get back the jeepneys "for being not in use for its intended purpose."

The electronic jeepneys are intended for use of the city's senior citizens and school children but they failed to serve such purpose due to lack of proper registration with the Land Transportation Office (LTO).

"It is very unsafe for the children and senior citizens to use these vehicles without the proper registration. And their road safety is at risk," City Legal Officer Jose Junio Jacela said.

Jacela said the LTO requires copies of the official receipt of the vehicles before they can be registered with LTO but Ynion allegedly failed to give the documents to the City Government.

The vehicles are now at the city motor pool for inventory and inspection of all its parts and accessories, he said.

Jacela said that after the inspection, Ynion is free to take back the vehicles. Businessman Larry Jamora has been designated to get the vehicles on behalf of Ynion. (Lydia C. Pendons/Sunnex)
