Iloilo to host national schools games

THE province and city of Iloilo are all set for the holding of the 2012 State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) National Olympics on February 19-25.
Dr. Benny Palma, president of Carlos Hilado Memorial State College in Talisay City and president of the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (Pasuc)-Western Visayas, said around 5,000 delegates from 108 state universities and colleges all over the country will be arriving in the city for the event.

Palma, together with other Pasuc-Western Visayas officials, visited Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. on Wednesday to finalize the arrangements relative to the use of the Iloilo Sports Complex and to seek his support for the event.
Palma said the delegates will start arriving in Iloilo City on February 17.
The opening program will be held in the afternoon of February 19. It will be kicked off by a grand of regional delegates and will be capped by a fireworks display at the Iloilo Sports Complex in the evening.
Palma said the SCUAA National Olympics is an annual sports event, which aims to look for potential athletes who could vie for various sports competitions here and abroad.
Athletes from the country's 16 regions will compete on 16 sports disciplines, among which are basketball, volleyball, softball, baseball, football, boxing, karatedo, swimming, taekwondo and chess. (PR)
