Outstanding village chiefs honored

ILOILO City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog and Representative Jerry P. Treñas led the awarding ceremony of 16 outstanding incumbent and former village chiefs of Jaro district in a ceremony held over the weekend at the Jaro Plaza covered gym.
The 42-strong membership of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) Jaro district honored its outstanding members in the first Bugal sang Asosasyon awarding rite as a culminating activity of the annual Jaro Agro-Industrial and Charity Fair.

Plaques of recognition were awarded to Jerel Aguilles of Balantang, Perla Guinea of M.V. Hechanova, Angelo Areno of San Jose, Abelardo Salting Jr. of Benedicto, Genoveva Cabulong of Dungon A, Marietta Orleans of Cuartero, Cherrie Lebrilla of Ma. Cristina, Minda Labiero of Taytay Zone 2, Julieta Diamante of Seminario, Apolonio Dadison of Dungon B, Love Joy Hosenilla of Buntatala, Victorio Rejaba Sr. of Tabuc Suba, the late Julian Silvederio of Tabuc Suba, Jonas Bellosillo of Simon Ledesma, Guillermo de la Cruz of Ma. Cristina and ABC head Rammy Guintibano of Calubihan.
The annual Jaro Agro-Industrial and Charity Fair was in celebration of the fiesta last February 2 in honor of the district’s patron saint Nuestra Sra. De la Candelaria.
Guintibano, village chief of Barangay Calubihan, said the ABC Jaro earned more than P1 million for activities at the Jaro Plaza from December to early February this year. The association spearheaded the December Affair at the Plaza with a carnival and nightly entertainment events.
The Jaro charity fair followed from middle of January until February 4, with a fiesta carnival and other activities. The generated funds will be used to repair the Graciano Lopez Jaena Bandstand at the heart of Jaro Plaza, Guintibano said. (Lydia C. Pendon)
