‘Goducate’ camp opens

ILOILO Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. graced the inauguration and grand opening of Goducate Camp and Training Center (GCTC) in Barangay Sto. Angel, San Miguel, Iloilo last Friday.

Goducate is a non-profit organization, which intends to help needy Asians by equipping them with skills through trainings in agribusiness and livelihood enterprises.

GCTC has an area of 11.3 hectares characterized by rolling hills planted with mahogany, gmelina, mangoes, bamboos, and other trees and plants endemic in the area.

Infrastructure development at the site, which was acquired in April 2010, has resulted in almost 90-percent completion.

Once fully established, the camp expects to have 100 trainees every day, a mix of Asians coming from China, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Philippines, among others.

GCTC visitors can later enjoy some of the recreational facilities already in place such as dipping pool for adults and mini-water park for children, zip line, leisure fishing, pedal boating, horseback riding, vertical climbing, nature’s trail hiking, and other sports and fun games.

The camp operations and programs are envisioned to be sustainable in the long term.

With the property zoned as agricultural, the GCTC engages in agribusiness and livelihood enterprises that generate sufficient income to support the trainees and empower the people of Barangay Santo Angel through community-driven developmental initiatives. (PR)
