THIS is a banner year for the barangays as the City Government of Iloilo assured more development projects to be implemented in the villages.
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said his office received a notice this week from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) that P30 million from the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF) was earmarked for several barangay projects.
The villages are encouraged to submit their projects to the office of the city mayor for verification and evaluation in order to avail of the LGSF support.
Similarly, the office of the city mayor also received a notice of P2 million from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Millennium Challenge Fund as the City Government’s prize as a Gawad Pamana Awardee early this year for the highly urbanized city category.
The City Government will give a counterpart fund of another P2 million for the Gawad Pamana prize and the total P4 million will fund seven development projects in the barangays.
The barangay recipients are San Isidro, La Paz for its lying-in health center; drainage system in Baldoza, La Paz; footwalk public alley in Calumpang, Molo; road improvement in Libertad Santa Isabel, Jaro; drainage system in Aguinaldo, La Paz; drainage system in Malipayon, city proper; and footbridge in Ungka, Jaro.
On the other hand, the Department of Health (DOH) served a notice on the release of P25 million for the expansion and improvement of the La Paz Maternity Clinic in La Paz district. (LCP)
