THE month-long observation of the 2012 National Disaster Consciousness Month in Western Visayas Region is all set, with a fluvial parade at the Iloilo River on July 3 to start the event.

Office of Civil Defense Regional Director Rosario Cabrera said the celebration is spearheaded by the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) wherein the event is one of the highlights of the observance which carry "Ligtas na Bayan, Maunlad na Pamayanan (Safe Town, Prosperous Community)" for its theme.

Cabrera said a motorcade will follow the fluvial parade to be participated by government agencies concerned in disaster mitigation and relief, with the Philippine Army 3rd Infantry Division Band and the Police Regional Office Band providing the fluvial parade music.

Meanwhile, participating vehicles in the motorcade will be ambulances, fire trucks and rescue vehicles from the Department of Health, Iloilo City Emergency Responders, Philippine Red Cross, Bureau of Fire Protection, and civic firefighting groups in the city.

Cabrera said the opening activities will be capped with a program at the lobby of the Iloilo Provincial Capitol. (Lydia C. Pendon)
