City plazas up for rehab

FOUR more plazas and parks in Iloilo City will be improved within the year following the inauguration of rehabilitation works at the Molo Plaza last Sunday.
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said the rehabilitation of the Molo Plaza amounted to P7 million, and improvement of the public plazas of Mandurriao, Plaza Libertad in the city proper, Arevalo and La Paz will have separate budget.
Molo residents will enjoy the plaza for its newly refurbished bandstand, more sodium lights, children’s playground, skating rink, flower gardens with trees, and enough spaces.
The district of Molo is considered the Athens of the Philippines and producer of world leaders. Senator Franklin Drilon, Mayor Mabilog, and lone district city Representative Jerry P. Treñas are among these current leaders.
Past leaders were the late Supreme Court Chief Justice Ramon Q. Avanceña, the late Senator Rodolfo Ganzon, Ruperto Montinola and Maria Beatriz del Rosario Arroyo, who established the Asilo de Molo orphanage.
Molo Plaza is a historical heritage and the cultural site of the city. Its Spanish vintage Catholic Church, “The St. Anne Cathedral,” is the only women liberation church in the entire country with solely women saints.
