ILOILO CITY – The chief of the Police Regional Office will lead Muslim communities in Western Visayas region in welcoming the month-long observance of the Ramadan starting Thursday or Friday.
Chief Superintendent Cipriano E. Querol Jr., PRO director, and the first Sultan of Panay, said that Muslims in the region are joining the whole world in celebration Ramadan.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the lunar Islamic calendar. It is the month of fasting, in which Muslims refrain from eating, drinking, and sexual relations from dawn until sunset.
Querol said he has already organized teams to report the appearance of the new crescent moon, which is the basis of the Sultan of Panay to declare the start of Ramadan.
The Panay Sultan has ordained Ustadz Haron Magadapa of Roxas City, Capiz as the over-all chairman of the Moon Sighting teams, which are stationed in Aklan, Antique, Capiz and Iloilo City. (LCP)
