Iloilo sets 2012 clean-and-green contest

THE Iloilo Provincial Government has launched this year’s Search for Outstanding LGUs on Ecological Solid Waste Management (ESWM) program, otherwise known as the Clean and Green contest.
Governor Arthur Defensor Sr., through Executive Order (EO) 098, directed the holding of the contest among all municipalities, component city and barangays in the province of Iloilo.
A provincial evaluation search committee composed of employees from different Provincial Government offices is tasked to travel to the 42 municipalities and one component city to evaluate and assess the extent of implementation of the solid waste management program and ensure its sustainability.
The winning municipalities (Category A and B) and barangays will receive cash prizes: first place get P50,000; second prize winner gets P30,000; winner for third prize gets P20,000; three consolation prizes of P10,000 each and plaques of appreciation.
The announcement and awarding of winners will be held during the celebration of the Provincial Solid Waste Management Awareness Week on December 3-7, 2012.
Last year, the municipalities of Miagao and New Lucena won the contest in Category A (first to second-class municipalities) and Category B (third to sixth-class municipalities), respectively.
While in the barangay category,the top three winners were: first place – Barangay Abilay, Oton; second place – Barangay Mat-y, Miagao; and third place – Barnagay Lobog, Tigbauan. (PR)
