Aquino sends aid to typhoon victims

VICTIMS of Typhoon Gener in Iloilo City received relief goods from President Benigno Aquino III this week through the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Western Visayas.
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said 1,500 mats, 1,500 mosquito nets, 1,500 blankets and 300 children’s kits will be turned over to the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWD).
The heavy rains and coastal storm surge brought about by Typhoon Gener rendered 695-homeless families who were transferred to evacuation centers.
The CSWD said 87 houses were destroyed, 466 were damaged and 3,478 persons were affected in 21 city villages. The City Government is giving P5,000 assistance to the families whose houses were destroyed and P2,500 to families whose houses were damaged.
Mabilog personally awarded financial assistance in Barangays Sto. Niño Sur and Calaparan in Arevalo district last week, and in Barangays Sto. Niño Norte and Calumpang on Monday.
Typhoon victims in San Juan, Ortiz, General Hughes and Rizal Pala-Pala will receive their assistance this week. (Lydia C. Pendon)
