THE City Government and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) are mulling two more esplanade projects as the inauguration of the first one in Iloilo City on Saturday is all set.

Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said Senator Franklin Drilon approved the proposal to extend the esplanade project in two more sites along Iloilo River.

The second esplanade will be from the Carpenter’s Bridge going to Sooc and the third project will be from the Diversion road up to the Jalandoni Bridge.

The first river esplanade project built along the Efrain Treñas Boulevard was a P37-million contract from the P70-million appropriation, while the remaining P33-million balance will initially start the construction of the second esplanade project.

Mabilog said the first esplanade will be opened to the general public from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day.

The City Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro) will maintain the cleanliness of the area, while the Iloilo City police office will maintain the security and peace and order situation.

The City Government will fill up other needs for people using the esplanade such as comfort rooms and water supply.

Vendors will not be allowed in the area, but people can bring along their picnic baskets or patronize nearby restaurants at the boardwalk area. (Lydia C. Pendon)
