ILOILO CITY – Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog has enjoined both the public and private sector here to join the nationwide mourning for the late Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo.
Robredo, his aide de camp security and two pilots, were onboard the Piper Seneca plane going to Naga City when it was reported missing over the Masbate seas 30 minutes after takeoff from Cebu last Saturday afternoon.
Mabilog said the city is under a state of mourning since August 21 until Robredo’s burial tentatively set on Tuesday, August 28.
The city mayor is requesting all Philippine flags be on half mast to show respect to the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) chief and encourage the private sector to do the same.
Robredo was instrumental in the implementation of good governance projects that catapulted local government units to join and engage in the Gawas Pamana ng Lahi Awards and the Seal of Good Housekeeping.
Iloilo City was recognized and awarded in both Robredo projects that focused on good governance and “Tuwid na Daan” vision of President Benigno Aquino III.
Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa was designated by the President as officer-in-charge of the DILG until a new secretary is appointed. (Lydia C. Pendon)
