ILOILO City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog and Representative Jerry Treñas signed on Friday the final design and plan for the rehabilitation and renovation of the historic Plaza Libertad.
The signed design and plan will be forwarded to the national office of the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (Tieza), which will undertake the bidding before the end of 2011.
A letter to Treñas dated September 13, 2012 from Engr. Nestor Domalanta, Tieza officer in charge of physical planning department, showed the interest and willingness of the agency to fund the renovation of the plaza.
Renovation of Plaza Libertad fronting the new City Hall building will be funded with P5 million by Tieza in preserving the historical and cultural value of the plaza.
The plaza will also be developed into a tourism attraction and place for fun for visitors and city residents.
The Iloilo City Government, on the other hand, will fund the construction of a dancing fountain and skating rink at the western side of Plaza Libertad.
Mabilog said the dancing fountain project will be the counterpart of his administration in the total renovation and beautification of the plaza.
