No more LP convention, only confirmation in Iloilo City

THE dominant Liberal Party (LP) will no longer hold a convention to select the party’s official local candidates in Iloilo City for the coming 2013 midterm elections.
However, LP will hold a confirmation and announcement of its candidates on Saturday, September 22, to be fielded in next year’s election, said lone district Representative Jerry P. Treñas recently.
“We already have a complete slate that is made up of Liberal Party members who are mostly winners in the 2010 elections and ready for reelection in 2013. This clearly sends a message to other party contenders and the opposition that we are united and ready,” Treñas said.
Treñas cannot, however, mention the LP’s lineup in the province of Iloilo. He said the party hierarchy will still have to decide whom to field in the province and municipalities.
The city party confirmation meeting on Saturday will be graced by Senator Franklin Drilon and Representative Erin Tañada.
To lead the LP ticket in the city are party members reelectionists Treñas, City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog, Vice Mayor Jose Espinosa III, and City Councilor Nielex Tupas.
City Councilors Joshua Alim, Plaridel Nava, Lyndon Acap, RLeone Gerochi, Rodel Fullon Agado and Jason Gonzales belong to other political parties but are in coalition with the Liberal.
City Councilors Jeffrey Ganzon, Ely Estante and Perla Zulueta are set to complete their third term, while Ganzon is running for vice mayor with the opposition and reelectionists city councilors David Jamora and Edward Yee will also run with the opposition.
The Liberal will field five new faces as city councilors to complete the slate.
