VOLUNTEER workers from eight towns in Iloilo’s second district received their PhilHealth cards sponsored by the Provincial Government at the Pavia covered gym on Tuesday, September 18.
There are 1,624 volunteer workers in the second district, which is composed of the towns of Alimodian, Leganes, Leon, New Lucena, Pavia, San Miguel, Sta. Barbara, and Zarraga.
Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. said he allotted P80 million for the enrolment of volunteer workers comprising of Barangay Health Workers (BHWs), Barangay Service Point Officers (BSPOs), Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) and Day Care Workers (DCWs) in PhilHealth for the lock-in period of two years, which means they are already covered until 2013.
Defensor did not stay long for the distribution activity in Pavia as he had to catch a plane to Manila, but Vice Governor Richard Garin, Board Member June Mondejar and Provincial Administrator Raul Banias graced the occasion.
Second district mayors Arcadio Gorriceta of the host town of Pavia, Enrique Rojas of Leganes, Dennis Superficial of Sta. Barbara, and Victor Saclauso of San Miguel joined their constituents in receiving their PhilHealth cards from the Provincial Government represented by Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Dr. Neneth Pador.
Pador said there are a total of 9,763 volunteer workers all over the province.
Defensor distributed PhilHealth cards to 2,160 volunteers from the first district in Guimbal last September 11.
The distribution for third district volunteers is set on September 25 in Janiuay, while fourth district volunteers will receive their PhilHealth cards on October 2 in Dueñas.
The distribution of PhilHealth cards for the fifth district volunteers is scheduled on October 5 in Sara. (PR)
