ONE hundred thirty-two youth interns from 28 municipalities in the province of Iloilo will receive their stipend at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol lobby on Monday, September 24.
The youth interns are recipients of the Expanded Government Internship Program (EGIP) of the National Government through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
A total of P1,901,328 will be distributed to the youth interns by DSWD Regional Director Minda Brigoli, Governor Arthur Defensor, Provincial Administrator Raul Banias and PSWD officer Dr. Neneth Pador.
The EGIP was developed with the end goal of providing opportunity for both out-of-school and in-school youths and even college/vocational graduates a hands-on experience of working in various government agencies, which they could use later when they become part of the government workforce.
The program is implemented during summer time when the youths are on vacation, thus using their available time in a productive manner.
The objectives of the program are: To initiate the youth to public service; to serve as a recruitment mechanism for potential public employee; and to extend possible financial assistance for the next school year enrollment.
Each youth intern receives a stipend of P277 per day for 52 days or a total of P14,404.
There are a total of 195 youth beneficiaries in the province of Iloilo with a total funding of P2,808,780. (PR)
