City girl mayor seeks full implementation of ordinances-A A +A
Wednesday, September 26, 2012
THE “girl mayor” of Iloilo City is proposing the intensified implementation of ordinances and resolutions enacted by the City Council.
Nizza Ann Regalado, 15, high school student of Ateneo de Iloilo, is the girl mayor of Iloilo City sitting beside incumbent Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog for one week from September 24-28.
The “Boy and Girl” city officials project is the 38th edition sponsored by the Rotary Club of Iloilo City to give opportunity to young people selected from 28 private and public schools in the city to learn and develop their skills on the basics of city governance.
Regalado admitted hearing not good impressions about the City Government from outside City Hall. But after three days, she said she realized the efforts of Mabilog’s administration in uplifting and developing Iloilo.
“The people outside City Hall are not aware and not listening to the many development efforts of City Hall officials. But now here, we are to help in informing them about the City Hall and the city leadership,” Ragalado said.
She said one thing that she learned about the City Hall is its good governance rating from the Department of Interior and Local Government. Iloilo City’s rating went from “very satisfactory” to “excellent” in 2011-2012.
The boy and girl city officials are attending the city regular sessions on Wednesday and will be holding their mock sessions on Thursday to enact their own resolutions to intensify implementation of local laws, especially on the environment, health, education, city traffic lights and other concerns.
