City consumers avail of discounted prices-A A +A

CONSUMERS of Iloilo City and nearby municipalities may avail themselves of consumer goods at discounted prices as a public service feature of the Philippine Retailers Association (PRA) Iloilo chapter in celebration of the Consumers Welfare Month.
PRA Iloilo president Francis Chung said the celebration and display of consumer goods is conducted October 11-13, 2012 at the Philippine National Police (PNP) multipurpose hall along Gen. Luna street, Iloilo City and enhanced by a consumer welfare desk to be manned by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
Aside from discounted and bundling of consumer goods of 55 retailers and suppliers here, celebration is also participated by retailers of food products, mandatory products such as electrical home appliances, Christmas lights and electrical products, hablon fashion accessories, herbal products, health and wellness products and home furniture and furnishings.
The trade industry office is conducting a regional celebration in different province of Western Visayas within the month of October. It is expected to make consumers more vigilant of their rights and responsibilities and ensure their safety and welfare.
Ruby Melliza, DTI public information officer, said the activities include a Diskwento Sale in the province of Aklan to be held on October 19 at Poblacion Numancia covered court and a forum on consumerism and consumer assembly on October 26 at Bel’s Garden in Tigayon, Kalibo, Aklan.
In Antique, the Diskwento Sale will be on October 14-16 with the retail and service establishments in San Jose, and mandatory product showcase on October 17-20 at Gaisano Mall.
Other activities are Bulletin Board Dressing Contest with focus on consumer awareness and safety to be participated by seven public high schools in the municipalities of Hamtic, Laua-an, San Jose, Patnongon, Belison, Libertad and Tobias Fornier.
In Capiz, the consumer welfare and product quality and safety standards expo will be held on October 9-11 at Gaisano Mall in Roxas City and a seminar on fair trade laws with business establishments ad consumers on October 18.
In Guimaras, activities include the installation of consumer welfare corner in six high schools namely St. Joseph in San Miguel, Holy rosary Academy in Nueva Valencia, San Lorenzo National High School, Getulio National High School and Good Shepherd Academy in Buenavista and Holy Immaculate Academy in Sibunag.
A roving diskwento caravan will be conducted on October 22 in Nueva Valencia, October 23 in Sibunag, October 24 in San Lorenzo, October 25 in Buenavista and October 26 in Jordan.
In Negros Occidental, the activities include helmet verification and ICC sticker markings on October 16-17 in San Carlos City and on October 23-24 in Binalbagan, consumer welfare month quiz bee contest in October 23 at the new government center in Bacolod. (Lydia C. Pendon)
