Dungon Creek rehab prioritized
-A A +AThursday, October 25, 2012
THE rehabilitation of Dungon Creek was given priority following the recent arrival of the dredging machine, an official of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) said.
City Environment officer Noel Hechanova, in his report to Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog, said the 1.1-kilometer stretch at the Dungon Creek from Marina to Taytay Zone 2 is already completed, while the P5.8-million kilometer stretch from Magsaysay to Taytay Zone 2 is still ongoing.
The timetable of the clearing of vegetation in three barangays along the Dungon Creek has a timetable of three months.
Mabilog said the clearing up of the two creeks is part of the total rehabilitation of the Iloilo River project and complementary to the programs of cleaning up the river and tributaries, including relocation sites for the affected settlers along the waterways.
The rehabilitation operation is a collaborative effort of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Public Works and Highways, and local government units. (Lydia C. Pendon)
