ILOILO City is looking for a new city police director to replace outgoing police chief Marietto Valerio.
City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said he is satisfied with Valerio's performance as city director and in ensuring peace and order in the city.
He said he will not stop Valerio in seeking for a higher position in the PNP hierarchy.
Valerio earlier wrote to the city mayor of his intention to leave his post as city police director as he awaits orders from Western Visayas Police Director Agrimero Cruz Jr.
He sought reassignment to the national office since last year pending his promotion.
Mabilog said he is hoping the police leadership will appoint a replacement of Valerio before the Dinagyang Festival scheduled for January 25 to 27, 2013.
The city is expecting President Benigno Aquino III, foreign dignitaries, lawmakers and other local officials and top businessmen during the festivity.
Mabilog also said the election campaign period will officially start by next week and there is an urgent need for a new city police director to spearhead the peace and order operation here. (Lydia C. Pendon)
