Iloilo Triplets shine in Batang Pinoy Games

THE triplets, all 13-year old boys and grade six pupils of Rizal Elementary School in Tanza St. Iloilo City stole the thunder at the recently concluded Batang Pinoy Games with six gold medals and 1 bronze in Pencak Silat sports.
The triplets named John Carl, John Clark and John Christian, all surnamed Segutier, started in simple martial arts that impressed the school officials and the coach to train them in Pencak Silat, a form of martial arts popular in Indonesia.
The triplets received gold medals and cash incentives of P1,500 each gold medals, P1,000 for silver and P500 for bronze from Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog last January 10, 2013.
John Carl is gold medalist in Pencak Silat Tungal and Rego categories while John Clark is the champion in Pencak Silat Ganda and Rego categories. John Christian is champion in Pencak Silat Ganda and Rego and also, a bronze medalist in Pencak Silat Tanding category.
The city sports contingent was awarded with 16 gold medals, 19 silver and 26 bronze medals.
Iloilo City hosted the 2nd Batang Pinoy Games on December 3-8, 2012 participated by more than 1,800 elementary and high school athletes 15 years and below from 130 local government units in the country.
Batang Pinoy Games, which started in 2011 in Naga City, is bent on talent identification program in the LGUs with hopefuls for international competitions such as in the Southeast Asian Games.
