Thursday, January 31, 2013
THE Department of Tourism (DOT) is encouraging tourism establishments to register and be accredited with the tourism office following the influx of foreign tourists and balikbayans in Western Visayas.
DOT Regional Director Helen Catalbas said the accreditation is a must in order to show that the establishments follow safety regulations with standard facilities and be protected by the government.
The DOT reported a total of 111-accredited establishments in the region for 2012 with concentration in regional centers such as Iloilo and Bacolod cities. These include 46 resorts, 13 hotels, 17 travel and tour agencies, 13 tourist transport operators, 12 tour guides, two restaurants, two TREs, one inn, one pension house, and four spas.
A total of 113 establishments have on-line applications for accreditation which include resort, hotel, travel and tour agency, tourist transport operator, tour guide, restaurant, inn, spa, tourist water transport operator, TTC, agri-tourism farm site, and MICEO.
Catalbas said the tourism-oriented establishments must regularly upgrade and beautify their facilities in order to attract customers, but there are still many establishments in the region which failed to register and be accredited with DOT.
The DOT official said she is encouraging the establishments to apply for accreditation and enjoy the free promotions and endorsement of the tourism department by encouraging visitors to come and taste the services offered.
