ILOILO City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said the construction of the multi-million peso Parola terminal project will start on April this year, but only after the new building of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) will be completed.

Mabilog made the announcement after representatives of Double Dragon Corp. assured their cooperation with the project upon recommendations by experts from the Public Private Partnership Center of the Philippines (PPPCP) formerly known as the Board of Investments.

Changes will be made in the memorandum of agreement (MOA) signed between the city and Double Dragon for the PPP Parola terminal project.

Double Dragon is set to construct the passenger terminal and another building worth some P135 million under a public private partnership (PPP).

However, the PPPCP recommended that the amount allotted be reduced as the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) will also build the berthing area and pier behind the passenger terminal building amounting to P125 million.

The PPPCP team helps in the review and extends the technical expertise of the City Government’s joint public private partnership venture with Double Dragon in the establishment of the Parola Ferry Terminal project at the Parola area in this city.

The project is expected to modernize sea travel between Iloilo City and Guimaras by providing a modern passenger terminal building, a park and a commercial building designed as a shopping mall.

The lot was declared under the City Government’s name through a Presidential Proclamation some two years ago and the Parola terminal project will be constructed in the 1.2 hectare lot.

Meanwhile, the rest of the lot is shared by the PCG and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources for its provincial office.

Mabilog said the PCG is currently constructing a new building to house its PCG district office. Construction is expected to finish by April this year and this will start the construction of the Parola terminal building on the PCG vacated lot.
