MILLIONS of Red Cross volunteers all over the Philippines are expected to join the fun run on February 10 as they run for humanity and save lives of others.
The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) slates the 3K and 5K simultaneous events in 100 PRC chapters in the country as the Filipino-Chinese celebrate their annual Chinese New Year.
In Iloilo City, the Million Volunteer Run 2 (MVR) is expected to gather more than 1,000 runners in the 3 and 5-kilometer run along the diversion road at 5 in the morning on Sunday.
PRC Iloilo Administrator Gilbert Valderrama said the fun run event will be participated by students paying P100 registration fee, working professionals with P200 and businessmen paying P500 each.
The running participant must wear red shirt and a certificate will be given to all finishers.
Valderrama said the MVR in Iloilo City is a major activity of the week-long Chinese New Year celebration and the registered runners can become Red Cross 143 volunteers or Red Cross I Love You which is a flagship volunteer program of the PRC that teaches people to look after and care for their respective community.
Red Cross 143 ensures every community to be prepar5ed and responsive in case of emergency. This concept aims to have 44 volunteers, 1 leader and 43 members in every barangay trained on disaster preparedness and response, in health and welfare and in voluntary blood donation and advocacy.
Red Cross 143 envisions a network of volunteers that would provide essential information and be mobilized in the field in times of emergency or disaster. This program upholds and encourages the spirit of volunteerism in the community, thereby delivering timely, effective and compassionate humanitarian assistance.
