A NEWLY renovated and improved pharmacy and laboratory of the Aleosan District Hospital was inaugurated last Friday, March 8, in Iloilo City.

Governor Arthur Defensor Sr., who led the inauguration, said the project is part of the massive renovation and upgrading of hospitals undertaken under Hospital Efficiency Assurance through Reform and Transformation (Heart) program.

Defensor said under the program the Provincial Government invested more than P500 million to upgrade the 12 district hospitals including the Iloilo Provincial Hospital in Pototan.

The newly-inaugurated pharmacy and laboratory has a budget of P3.3 million taken from the 20 percent internal revenue allotment (IRA) of the province in 2011, Defensor said.

There is also an ongoing construction of the Operating Room-Delivery Room (OR-DR) Complex with a budget of P4 million, he added.

Some P3.8 million was also allotted for the construction of a new Dietary Complex at Aleosan District Hospital, which is already about to be implemented.

Aleosan District Hospital was chosen as one of the three hospitals to be given assistance by the Korean International Cooperation Agency (Koica).

Dr. Paz Calopez, chief of Aleosan District Hospital, said Koica engineers had already inspected the area where they will put up a two storey-building to house the Emergency Room, X-Ray room, wards, private and semi-private rooms.

It was learned that Koica will be investing a total of P200 million for the district hospitals in Alimodian, Balasan, and Calinog.

Defensor said this is the first time that massive improvements are being done in all of the province’s district hospitals.

He said the improvement of hospitals and the enhancement of health services that are being implemented by his administration will primarily benefit the poor. (PR)
