Iloilo to host Apec committee on transportation, food security-A A +A

IT IS now official! Iloilo City will host two top level meetings of the Asia Pacific Economic Council (Apec) in 2015.
Guillermo Luz of the Apec National Organizing Committee sent a communication to Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog, showing that Iloilo was chosen to host the meetings of the Transportation Committee on October 8 to 10, 2015 and the Food Security Committee on October 15 to 18, 2015.
Some 300 international delegates will participate in the Transport Committee meetings, while 500 delegates will attend the Food Security Committee from 21 countries.
Before the actual meeting in 2015, advance parties of both international committees will arrive to prepare the meetings and participation of delegates.
Mabilog said that a site selection and inspection panel will be in the city on August 28 to see the Apec preparations. The inspection team will go first to Boracay Island in Aklan on August 18, Iloilo City on August 28 and Bacolod City on August 29 to see the hosting sites, amenities and proposed construction of facilities.
Cebu City also presented its bid for the hosting of Apec meetings to clinch a total of four possible venues in the Visayas.
Davao City in Mindanao, Clark, Subic, National Capital Region (NCR), Puerto Princesa in Palawan and Albay in Luzon are also slated for inspections.
Some 1,000 people coming from 21 countries in Asia and the Pacific will participate in the Ministerial Meetings. The event will feature 18 different Ministerial Meetings with an event every month from 2014 to December 2015.
