THE Iloilo City Government will install its first four traffic lights with closed circuit television camera (CCTV), said city mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.
Mabilog said the installation of the city-funded traffic lights, which costs some P3.5 million, will possibly be along General Luna Street and areas at the capitol and Iznart Delgado.
The first four of the 16 planned traffic lights are expected to improve the traffic flow, while the CCTV will help deter criminal acts along the streets.
Some P15 million, taken from the budget of a fountain at Plaza Libertad, was allotted for the traffic lights.
The plaza is being rehabilitated as a historical site funded by the Department of Tourism Enhancement Infrastructure Zone Authority amounting some P4 million.
A private donor will also install a traffic light at the corner of Infante and General Luna Street as an experimental project with an electronic billboard.
The mayor said the installation is just one of the many in line projects for the resolution of traffic congestion in the city proper.
