Heavy rains delay construction of housing units-A A +A
Tuesday, August 27, 2013
CONTINUOUS heavy rains hampered the construction of housing units at the relocation site of Iloilo River Subdivision Phase I in Iloilo City, said Regional Director Isagani Jalbuena.
Jalbuena said 1,000 housing units are slated for completion by August 30 but heavy rains affected the soil foundation and washed out some septic tanks at the construction site.
He said only more than 300 initial units were completed and awarded to the relocated families from the Barangay North San Jose, Molo distict.
The completion is instead reset by June 2014 as rehabilitation works are conducted at the 5.6 hectares relocation site.
The National Housing Authority (NHA) assured a total of 1,435 houses for the informal settlers; 1,000 in Lanit Jaro and 435 at the Iloilo River Plains Subdivision Phase III in Barangay Sooc, Mandurriao district.
Meanwhile, contractor JD Legaspi Construction also donated 138 housing units to the Iloilo River Plains Subdivision Phase II at the San Isidro relocation site. (Lydia C. Pendon)
