Mayor to review new perimeter ordinance-A A +A
Wednesday, August 28, 2013
ILOILO City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog is set to review the provisions of the new Perimeter Boundary Ordinance (PBO) before signing the new measure authored by Councilor Plaridel Nava.
But the city chief executive assured the new ordinance will hopefully be implemented before the end of 2013 after all requirements are met, including publication of the said ordinance.
The new PBO was passed by the City Council last Tuesday, August 27, in a 5-7 vote to cement the implementation of the new ordinance that would ease out traffic congestion in the city proper.
However, Mabilog said that before the PBO implementation, the City Government is set to install four initial traffic lights out of the 16 busy traffic junctions in the city. Around P15 million will fund the initial traffic lights of which, the amount was realigned from a fountain project at Plaza Libertad.
The initial traffic lights will be installed in the areas of Plaza Molo, Infante flyover, Jalandoni flyover and in front of St. Paul Hospital.
Mabilog said he wanted the traffic projects, including the road widening currently at the diversion road, to be completed first before the implementation of the PBO.
Nava has introduced a new version of the PBO ordinance by not including the issuance of a car pass and by specifying the designated and established perimeter boundary terminals outside the city proper.
These terminals are in Barangay Sto. Domingo and Mohon in Arevalo district for provincial public vehicles from Antique and southern towns of Iloilo; Barangays Hibao-an Sur and Norte in Mandurriao for vehicles from the towns of San Miguel, Alimodian and Leon; Barangays Baldoza, Ticud and San Isidro in Lapaz district for vehicles plying the Iloilo coastal road; Barangays Sambag and Ungka in Jaro for public vehicles passing through the central towns including the towns of Tapaz and Dumarao, Capiz; and Barangays Tagbak, Balantang and Buntatala in Jaro for public vehicles passing through the northern towns of Iloilo and those from the provinces of Capiz and Aklan.
