A BUSINESS management professor of the University of the Philippines (UP) Visayas has called the Iloilo River a true urban treasure reflective of the Ilonggos culture and environment.
Prof. Dr. Evelyn Belleza said the Iloilo-Batiano River Master Plan identifies ways to revitalize the natural and built heritage of the 15-kilometer river stretch from the Parola mouth up the boundary of Oton Iloilo where it meets the Batiano River.
The river master plan is a centerpierce for the development of Iloilo River and Iloilo City as a whole. It targets the strategies to maintain the river as a resource for flood protection, opportunities for recreation and enhancement and improve aesthetics of the community.
Senate President Franklin Drilon and Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog lauded Belleza for a comprehensive report on the river.
Both Drilon and Mabilog suggested that the river master plan must be in a video or in a DVD to be appreciated more by everyone. (LCP)
