THE Department of Tourism in Western Visayas (DOT-6) is negotiating with vessel managements in line with its new tourism product that is set to interconnect three islands.
The “Cruise and Drive Tour” will offer foreign and domestic tourists a trip to visit the islands of Panay, Guimaras, and Negros using roll-on roll-off (roro) vessels to carry their vehicles.
DOT Regional Director Helen Catalbas said a reduced fare rate of P400 per vehicle one way trip to Guimaras, on top of each passenger’s fare, is being negotiated to roro ship managements of FF Cruz and Montenegro Lines.
She said a reduction in the inclusive terminal fee imposed by the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) was also pushed.
The imposed terminal fees of the PPA for one way trip to Guimaras are: P65 for motorcycle, tricycle and scooter; P129 for car, minivan, SUV, AUV and public utility jeepneys (PUJs) with less than 16 passengers; and P258 for light delivery truck, van, pickup trucks, PUJs with more than 16 passengers; and P516 for stake truck, heavy delivery truck, passenger and tourist bus, prime mover, tractor head and 10-wheeler truck.
Catalbas said she asked an accredited tourist bus company based in Aklan to bring tourists to Iloilo.
The Cruise and Drive Tour will initially cover Iloilo and Guimaras because FF Cruz Corp. based in Lapuz, Iloilo City is the only roro management passing the route through the Port of Jordan, Guimaras. Montenegro Shipping Lines has stopped its operations three months ago.
Other ports in Western Visayas with roro operations are in Caticlan, Aklan with Montenegro Shipping Lines serving passengers from Iloilo to Puerto Princesa, Palawan via Cuyo Island up to Mindoro and Batangas; and Millenium Shipping, Montenegro Shipping and Tri-Star Megalink Corp. from sitio Naluoyan, Sapao, Dumangas, Iloilo to Bacolod City and back to Dumangas.
The tour is one of the newest tourist products being developed by the DOT in Western Visayas and partners under the Experience Western Visayas First marketing flagship program.
