NUMBER one city councilor Nielex C. Tupas will lead in the blood donation activity on Thursday, September 5 at the Philippine Red Cross city office in a move to help the campaign to save lives affected by the dreaded dengue fever.
Tupas said it is his yearly tradition to donate blood and together with his staff and friends have organized a number of blood donation events in this city.
The city councilor said dengue had already claimed several lives, especially vulnerable children. It has victimized many babies, children, women and even the elderly and caused so much stress, worry, anxiety, pain and depression for the loved ones of those who caught the dengue virus.
“I have close friends and even family members who thankfully survived the virus and it is due to love of family members and support of the community by blood donation through available blood products used for transfusion. Let us do our share of helping others and saving lives. The life that we will save might even be our own, our loved ones and people we know,” Tupas said.
Records from the city health office showed that dengue has already claimed eight lives in Iloilo City from January to August this year.
