Friday, September 6, 2013
A TOTAL of 423 households in remote areas in Iloilo province received solar energy from the Household Electrification Program (HEP) Solar Home Systems.
Among the five barangay beneficiaries were the Tagubanhan and Punta Buri in Ajuy, Bagongon in Concepcion, Sitio Naburot and Buenavista in Carles.
The project, spearheaded by the Iloilo I Electric Cooperative Inc. (ILECO III) and Department of Energy (DOE), aims to contribute to the National Government’s Rural Electrification program of attaining 90 percent household level electrification by 2017.
Mario Marasigan, director of Renewable Energy Management Bureau of the DOE, initiated the ceremonial switch-on in Barangay Preciosa, Sara.
Present in the ceremony were Ajuy Mayor Juan Alvarez, Carles Mayor Arnold Betita and Concepcion Municipal Administrator Carlito Carrera.
During the ceremony, the DOE cited additional households in island barangays in Northern Iloilo under the Ileco III franchise area until 2017.
Engineer Antonio Labios, director of DOE Visayas, also inducted into office the officers of the five recipients.
Labios said the project involves the provision of electricity service in remote off-grid households in areas inaccessible to vehicles. (PR)
