LTFRB sets hearing on new fare hike-A A +A
Monday, September 9, 2013
THE Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in Iloilo City will conduct a public hearing concerning petitions of a new fare increase of public vehicles, on September 16 at 2 p.m.
LTFRB regional director Romula Bernardes said the Iloilo City Alliance of Drivers Association (Icada) and Iloilo City Alliance of Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association (Icajoda) filed for a fare increase of at least P0.50.
The Icada is headed by Nick Dalisay, while Icajoda is headed by Vulcan Espinosa.
Drivers and operators said the steady increase of diesel and gasoline prices, which also triggered price hike of spare parts and other needs in the public transport industry, has forced them to apply for fare hike.
Other commodities such as food, health, and education, among others, are also expected to increase in prices.
Bernardes said he has to act on the petition; the results of which will be submitted to the LTFRB central office for immediate action.
He also asked drivers not to enforce the implementation of fare increase unless approved by the authorities.
