THREE barangay officials in Iloilo City were disqualified to hold office after they were found guilty of “malversation of public property through falsification of public or official document.”
The officials in Barangay East Baluarte in Molo district who were placed under perpetual disqualification are village chief Danny Acebuque, councilman Narciso Acebuque and treasurer Maylene Jandoquile.
A regional trial court in the province affirmed Ombudman-Visayas’ findings that showed the three officials, on or about October 1, 2007, conspired to falsify acknowledged receipts of the 28 sacks of rice for the calamity supplies valued at P36, 400.
“The accused unlawfully appropriate for their own personal use and benefit the 28 sacks of rice,” the Ombudsman charge sheet said.
Deputy Ombudsman for the Visayas Pelagio Apostol granted a recommended bail bond of P80, 000 per official.
Meanwhile, City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said the first elected councilman or “barangay kagawad” will most likely take over as barangay officer in-charge while waiting for the new elected officials in October.
