REITERATING his love for the youth, Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. vowed to fully support the programs and activities of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP) in the province.
Defensor assured GSP of his continued support during the opening ceremony of 58th Iloilo Girl Scout Council Encampment at Camp Pasica, Dingle town Thursday.
“For as long as I am a public servant, I will always go out of my way to help the girl scouts movement,” he stressed.
To show his commitment, the governor mentioned the P1.2-million aid he gave to the GSP to build its administrative building in the 13-hectare amp this year.
The Provincial Government also donated P400,000 worth of water system to augment GSP’s water needs.
Defensor also told the campers to imbibe GSP’s values, especially honesty, self-reliance, discipline, and being clean in thought, word, and deed.
He also advised them to “get rid of corrupt politicians for they cannot deliver the government they deserve” when they reach the voting age.
“My generation has lost our chance to introduce a meaningful reform to our beloved country but soon it is going to be your turn to do what is right and best,” he added.
The 58th Iloilo Girl Scout Council Encampment aims to develop unity among young women, realize the ideals of womanhood, and prepare themselves for their responsibilities in the society.
The four-day activities include cooking demonstrations, cave exploration, basic martial arts training, disaster preparedness, and peer education.
There will also be an evening talent show on Friday and grand campfire by Saturday.
The camp is being secured by the members of the 301st Infantry Brigade of the Philippine Army. (PR)
