Wednesday, September 25, 2013
THE Iloilo City Council approved on Tuesday its Supplemental Budget 4 (SB 4) to fund the operating expenses of the City Government and for the Christmas gift-giving to more than 10,000 indigent families in December.
The approved P14.7 million SB 4 has a cut of P300,000 from the total amount of P15 million.
City Councilor Eduardo Peñaredondo said the P300,000 was taken from P1 million intended for the Iloilo-Batiano River Development Council and requested by Vice Mayor Jose Espinosa III to fund expenses of the City Council and his office.
Peñaredondo said the amount will hopefully be included in the Supplemental Budget Number 5 slated by November as the City Council braces for Christmas allowances and bonuses of City Hall employees.
He said they are waiting for the arrival of Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog next week from his official travel abroad to see if the cut amount will be restored to the Iloilo-Batiano River Development Council.
SB 4 is intended to fund the P4.5 million appropriation for Christmas gift-giving on December to more than 10,000 indigent families here and other expenses including salaries of three new executive assistants of the city mayor.
Among the sources of funds reverted for SB 4 were P8 million for senior citizens program, P607,010 from the peace and order fund, P240,000 from Smart Communications, and the P327,825 funding for children in conflict with law.
