5.5M birthing clinic in Iloilo-A A +A
Thursday, September 26, 2013
A BIRTHING clinic amounting to P5.5 million is set to be constructed in Zarraga, Iloilo within 2013 to prevent maternal and neonatal deaths.
Mayor John Tarrosa said the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation and Iloilo Provincial Government gave P2.5 million each, while the host municipality provided P500,000.
“This project, once finished, is going to be the best rural health unit in the province and we thank the governor for his support,” he said.
Tarrosa received the province’s counterpart during Governor Arthur Defensor Sr.’s regular press conference on Thursday.
Defensor said he has to help in the project because the town’s existing maternal health care services failed the standards of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth).
“If Zarraga’s birthing clinic remained unaccredited, indigent patients cannot avail the benefits of PhilHealth. The town, too, will lose its chance to avail DoH’s maternal health package,” he said.
The governor also pointed out that election is way over and it is more important to fulfill his campaign promises. (PR)
