THE Western Visayas College of Science and Technology (WVCST)-Extension Services Division lauded the Provincial Government for its aid in the feeding program that benefited 43 public elementary schools in Iloilo province.
WVCST president Dr. Luis Sorolla thanked Governor Arthur Defensor for his continued support to the Busog Lusog Talino (BLT) School Feeding Program sponsored by the Jollibee Group Foundation.
The program, which is in its fifth year, has helped address the incidence of hunger and malnutrition, dropout rates and absenteeism among the elementary pupils.
BLT aims to help malnourished students in grades 1 and 2 from the beneficiary schools.
Jollibee Group Foundation initiated the feeding program in response to the advocacy of the United Nations World Food Program, that offering nutritious meals in school boosts enrolment and motivates attendance and improves learning ability among pupils.
Sorolla said the beneficiary schools are in the municipalities of San Joaquin, Miag-ao, Leganes, Cabatuan, Maasin, Lambunao, Dumangas, Barotac Nuevo, Anilao, Ajuy, Lemery, Concepcion, Estancia and San Dionisio.
The province also has its own supplementary feeding program for pre-schoolers implemented through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office. (PR)
