Thursday, September 26, 2013
THE construction of the P470 million Iloilo Convention Center is set to start on October 15 and is expected to be finished after nine months by 2014.
Hilmark Construction, who won the bidding last September 24 held at the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) regional office, submitted its proposal documents to the central office of the Department of Tourism-Tourism Infrastructure Economic Zone Authority (CDOT-TIEZA).
DPWH Regional Director Edilberto Tayao said the Notice of Award and Notice to Proceed for the Hilmarks will be issued within a week.
The company won the bidding after it posted a bid price of P479 million against FF Cruz Construction of P600 million and FGurrea without a price bid. The project, which is designed by architect William Coscoluella, is expected to finish within 270 days.
The convention center which will soon rise inside the Iloilo Business Park of Megaworld property at the old airport area in Mandurriao district will serve as the venue for the Asia Pacific Economic Conference (Apec) slated in 2015.
Tayao said additional features such as exterior-like power connections, amenities, furniture and landscaping will need an additional amount of some P200 million and will make the total project amount from P700 to P800 million.
He also said an amount of P500 million was already given to the DPWH before the pork barrel issue broke out last August.
However, he said the Supreme Court’s temporary restraining order of the pork barrel funds will not affect the project.
Out of the P500 million budget, TIEZA downloaded P250 million and another P250 million from the priority development assistance fund of Senator Franklin M. Drilon.
Drilon assured he will look for the remaining funds to complete the new convention center. (LCP)
