Mabilog amenable to transfer Infante flyover-A A +A

ILOILO City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog admitted that he is amenable to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) proposal to transfer the Infante flyover to another area, if the particular flyover poses danger to the community.
DPWH regional director Edilberto Tayao recently consulted the city mayor over the plan of widening the diversion bridge, and widening and expansion of Infante Street in Molo district up to the Iloilo fishing port complex in Tanza Street.
Mabilog said he was told that two major posts of the flyover will be affected by the road widening project and there is an urgent need to transfer the flyover at the intersection of Infante and Gen. Luna streets.
The Infante flyover was constructed in 2005 under the Presidential Bridge Program during the time of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. It was the first flyover to be constructed in the city and the second flyover was constructed at the intersection of Jalandoni and Gen. Luna streets.
Mabilog said the flyover was constructed with pre-fabricated materials and could easily be taken out and transfer to other place with minimum cost to the National Government.
The city mayor suggested transferring the flyover in growing communities and busy intersections preferably at the circumferential and radial roads or at the intersection of Ungka to airport in Jaro district.
Senate President Franklin M. Drilon was already apprised of the situation and assured funding for the expansion of Infante street.
