MEDIA practitioners in three Visayan regions will participate in an environmental conference onboard M/V DA-BAFR vessel off the coast of Iloilo on October 6 to 7.
During the conference, media men from Western, Eastern and Central Visayas are expected to discuss their roles in the promotion of fisheries resource conservation and protection.
Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Assistant Director Drusila Esther Bayate said the media conference aims to provide Visayan media practitioners with hands-on information on the framework of environmental law enforcement.
Bayate said the activity is a joint undertaking of BFAR in collaboration with Tanggol Kalikasan and the United States Agency for International Development.
Other topics to be discussed onboard vessel tour include the roles of media in environmental policy making and enforcement, BFAR experience on fishery law enforcement across the country, relevance of BFAR’s fisher folk registration program to fisheries management, and voices from the grassroots on mining protected areas and watershed.
Among the participants are national BFAR Director Asis G. Perez, lawyer Maria Generosa Mislang of Tanggol Kalikasan, national fish coordinator Melanie Guerra and Paz Dimaangay of Commoners Society of Guiuan Inc. (Lydia C. Pendon)
