Friday, October 18, 2013
THE Iloilo City Government has approved a P400,000 worth of financial assistance to earthquake victims in Cebu and Bohol provinces.
The allocation was decided in a session Friday after Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog asked for financial assistance amounting P100,000 for Cebu City, P100,000 for Tagbilaran City in Bohol, P100,000 for other affected cities in the province of Cebu, and another P100,000 for other affected cities in Bohol.
Worst hit by the earthquake, which struck Central Visayas on October 15, is the island province of Bohol. A total of 170 fatalities were reported as of October 17, while several heritage churches and buildings were destroyed by the tremor.
The Basilica Minore del Santo Nino in Cebu City was severely damaged, including several other old buildings.
Councilor Ed Penaredondo, chairman of the City Council committee on appropriations, said Cebu City also gave financial assistance to Iloilo City when it was hit by Typhoon Frank in 2008. (LCP)
