IN ONE with other stakeholders, Governor Arthur Defensor, Sr. has expressed full support to the Philippine National Police’s all-out campaign against illegal drugs in Iloilo.
He declared his support during the launching of Barangay Drug Clearing Operations dubbed as “Oplan Walis Droga” in Oton Central Elementary School on Monday.
The campaign, spearheaded by Iloilo Provincial Police Office (Ippo) Director Cornelio Salinas, aims to stop the proliferation of illegal drugs and to protect people’s health and future.
“Illegal drug is one of our serious problems and it needs a multi-sectoral approach to resolve it. So, we must do our share before it’s too late,” Defensor said.
The governor also committed to give cash incentives to policemen who could catch illegal drugs users and pushers in Iloilo.
On his part, Salinas enjoined the academe, especially the teachers and students, to say no to any type of illegal drugs that could potentially damage their brains.
He also underscored how valuable their cooperation in making Iloilo a drug-free province.
“As the quotation goes; ‘for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.’ Now is the time to fight illegal drugs,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, Ippo commended the municipal police stations chiefs of Tigbuan, Miagao, Guimbal, and Oton and 1st Maneuver Platoon for their successful anti-narcotic operations earlier this year.
The buy-bust operations in four towns led to the arrest of six drug personalities and yielded 17 heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu, one small pack of marijuana and P9,030 marked money.
Arrested were Manuel T. Jucaban of Barangay Simon Ledesma, Jaro, Iloilo City; Baltazar T. San Jose of Barangay 8, Tigbuan; Amante E. Castro of Barangay Buyu-an and R-Jay S. Sandigan of Poblacion, Tigbuan; Renante C. Boron and Nestos C. David of Barangay San Nicolas and Barangay Trapiche, Oton, respectively. (PR)
