Sanitary inspection on food stores ordered-A A +A
Tuesday, October 22, 2013
ILOILO City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog has ordered sanitary inspectors of the City Health Office (CHO) to inspect all food outlets to determine if these are using imported and local food products approved by the Bureau of Food and Drugs under the Department of Health (DOH).
Mabilog said he instructed the CHO to advise the food store owners in the city to display their imported food products and to report immediately on the status of food products used in restaurants and carenderias.
Violators of this executive order will be subjected to non-renewal of business permit, he said.
Mabilog said the DOH has ruled out samonella poisoning as the main cause of gastroenteritis in 11 persons and the death of one after reportedly eating at the Dakasi Restaurant at Boardwalk in Smallville Complex.
Another case of alleged food poisoning also occurred at The Castle Hotel, occupied by some 200 Korean students as a school and cafeteria.
Health authorities said a severe case of stomach disorder caused some Korean students to seek medical attention.
Mabilog said he does not want such cases to happen anymore in the city food stores, thus the inspection. (LCP)
