KBP policy to rationalize broadcaster accreditation by 2016-A A +A
Tuesday, October 29, 2013
THE Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) is set to come up with a national policy to rationalize the accreditation of all radio and television broadcasters by 2016.
On the proliferation of political “blocktimers,” lawyer Wilhelm Soriano, of the KBP, said they are rushing up the 2016 policy to professionalize the broadcast industry.
Soriano said that reporters undergo an accreditation examination before they can talk to the microphone.
However, KBP allows blocktimers without accreditation to talk on political issues as a form of livelihood to the broadcasters.
He said media practitioners must promote investigative journalism to regulate unlicensed blocktimers in promoting political agenda.
The KBP official spearheaded a guide on responsible reporting of human trafficking cases during the two-day seminar workshop on anti-trafficking held in Iloilo City last week.
He said media have an extensive reach in convincing people to prevent human trafficking, which he said is worse than corruption. (Lydia C. Pendon)
