Monday, December 23, 2013
THE City Government of Iloilo is putting up an initial six traffic lights in six busy road junctions in the city.
Of the six traffic lights, two were already installed and working along Mabini-Ledesma street and Mabini-Gen Luna street.
The traffic lights also include digital timer and signages, which were free samples of a business corporation.
City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said the two traffic light installations along Mabini-Ledesma and Mabini-Gen Luna streets with light emitting diode (LED) are not included in the 2013 budget of P15 million intended for about 16 traffic light installations in the city.
The other four traffic lights installations are to be completed before the Dinagyang Festival in the fourth week of January 2014 and these will be funded from the P15 million which was originally intended for the construction of a fountain inside the Plaza Libertad, Mabilog said.
The areas to be installed are along the University of the Philippines-Visayas, along Delgado Street in the city proper, at La Paz intersection, and at Jaro Plaza area.
Mabilog said the traffic lights will be equipped further with a close circuit television camera (CCTV) to enhance road safety and deter any road crimes.
By 2014, all the planned city traffic lights installations will be completed, the city mayor added.
