Iloilo enhances war vs illegal drugs-A A +A
Friday, December 27, 2013
THE battle against illegal drug proliferation in Iloilo City has turned drastic yet attainable, said Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.
Mabilog is joining forces with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), through Regional Director Paul Ledesma, in bringing the campaign to all 180 city barangays as a follow-up, after police and PDEA operations busted a Mexican Sinaloa drug syndicate in Lipa City, Batangas this week.
The mayor admitted it is not farfetched that the drug syndicate may have connection with local couriers in Iloilo, and the illegal substance methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu may have found its way in already identified affected barangays.
Mabilog enjoined all barangay residents to report any suspected illegal drug case or drug-related crimes in their respective villages.
The PDEA, for its part, has put up notices and signs for hotlines and text numbers to call in case a suspected illegal drug transaction is about to take place.
The Iloilo City Anti-Drug Abuse Council chaired by Mabilog is putting up hotlines in public places for anyone to call and text. The numbers are Hotline - 337-1600; Smart - 0920-912-1575; Globe - 0917-633-7201; and Sun - 0932-886-6991.
Mabilog also aired a warning to city-based drug-related personalities to stop their nefarious activities.
